A Statement from Activist, Philanthropist, Director & Actor Nile Leon
BEL AIR, CA – As a constant voice for the voiceless and recipient of the Global Humanist Man of the Year Award, I feel compelled to address the recent revelations of an alien spacecraft entering our solar system just outside of the orbit of Pluto. It truly is a remarkable moment in mankind’s history and I, along with all of you reading this now, cannot believe that we are the generation that is experiencing humanity’s first contact with an intelligent extraterrestrial species.
I have spoken to many world leaders, specifically the President of the United States, the Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and Canada, the European Union Chief and Prince of Monaco, the latter of whom is a dear friend who I have grown to know after several years of running into one another at the Cannes Film Festival and its many afterparties.
Let me be clear: I stand with the extraterrestrials.
Their bravery in navigating the galaxy just to reach our humble little solar system is nothing short of inspiring.
But, as we often do with ourselves and the things that we do not care to understand, we see threat where there has been no indication of one existing.
The calls for putting up Earth’s defenses are shortsighted and, frankly, nothing short of barbaric.
Have we not left our violent past behind us? Are we still those frightened little creatures in cave, jumping at the shadows that the fire is casting on the wall behind us?
Is that still us?
I ask all of you, my fellow humans, one simple question: is this truly the first impression we want to make?
I, for one, say no more.
Let us be the generation for the first time in our species’ brief, violent history to welcome what we don’t yet fully understand and attempt to communicate in peace. Let’s build bridges, not bludgeons.
Over the course of my near thirty-year film career, I have painstakingly researched the possibilities of extraterrestrial life for my roles in Solar Flare, The Beyonder, and my debut directorial project, the Academy Award Nominated The Mouth of Oblivion.
Because of this resume, I feel that I need to speak on this situation before we make a dire mistake.
All of that time spent with SETI scientists, NASA representatives, and various global think tanks has given me firsthand understanding and insight into the delicate nature of potential first contact scenarios.
My production company, Genteel Fiction, is already in pre-production on a documentary titled They Came in Peace: Humanity’s First Contact.
We’ve assembled a team of experts, including several of my former socially minded co-stars, and we aim to be the definitive voice on this historic moment. As executive producer, director, and narrator of the project, I am pledging to you all now that I will donate 20% of my salary to establishing a fund to educating ourselves about our new celestial neighbors.
But that is just the beginning of this vision for humanity’s future.
As I’ve learned over my mission of bringing clean water to underdeveloped nations and to my unyielding quest to combat climate change have shown, the key to solving any crisis or issue is simply dialogue and understanding.
That’s why I’m announcing the formation of the Initiative for Extraterrestrial Relations (IER), a non-profit educational organization dedicated to fostering peaceful communication with our galactic neighbors.
I urge all nations, and indeed all of humanity, to follow my lead in extending an olive branch to these brave explorers. After all, they chose to come to us.
Let’s show them they made the right choice by coming to us peacefully.

Editor’s Note: This press release was written before the destruction of Los Angeles and the enacting of Protocol 813-A. Unfortunately, Mr. Leon was among those lost in the devastation.
We here at the National Chronicle all express our deepest and most profound sadness with Mr. Leon’s passing along with the rest of humanity’s first victims in this newest type of conflict that sees us at war with our galactic neighbors.
We stand unequivocally with the United Nations Defense Forces and the brave men and women defending the human way of life from our impending extinction.
They did not come in peace.
